My Approach to Therapy
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in Long Beach. My practice focuses on assisting children and families create better relationships. Among many therapeutic methods, I teach tools and coping skills that can be used to improve parenting and relationship issues. Within my practice, I also work with children facing emotional and behavioral issues caused by unresolved loss from abandonment, divorce or death. I also conduct pre-marital and couples counseling in addition to individual, family, and group therapy. I run groups on positive parenting skills for parents and grief and loss groups for children and adolescents.
Prior to starting my private practice, I was a counselor and team leader at a group home for children, a Therapeutic Behavior Specialist at a residential treatment center for adolescents, and a social worker, therapist, and administrative supervisor at local outpatient center. In these positions, my primary focus was on children, adolescents, and their families.
My counseling professional affiliations include memberships in the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), the Long Beach-South Bay Chapter of CAMFT, and the Orange County Chapter of CAMFT. At this time, I am also the Clinical Director at Large for the Long Beach-South Bay Chapter of CAMFT after been a contributing board member for several years.
As part of my collaborative divorce mediation practice, I am also a member of the Association of Collaborative Divorce Professionals, the Alternatives: A Collaborative Divorce Group, the South Bay Bar Association, the Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association, and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. I understand that many couples want their divorce to have a minimal impact on the parties involved, especially children. Therefore I assist couples in an effort to minimize the negative effects of divorce on all family members and guide the parties into the most amicable solution for their particular situation.
I received a Bachelor of Arts degree, with Honors, from California State University Dominguez Hills. I also received a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology, with an option in Marriage and Family Therapy, from California State University Dominguez Hills.
