My Approach to Therapy
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Doctorate in counseling psychology in private practice in Long Beach. My practice focuses on assisting individuals and families create better relationships. Among many therapeutic methods, I teach tools and coping skills that can be used to improve relationship issues as well as parenting. Within my practice, I also work with children and adults facing emotional and behavioral issues caused by unresolved loss from abandonment, divorce or death. I also conduct pre-marital and couples counseling in addition to individual and family therapy. I also provide positive parenting skills for parents, and conduct grief and loss counseling.
Prior to starting my private practice, I was a counselor and team leader at a group home for children, a Therapeutic Behavior Specialist at a residential treatment center for adolescents, and a social worker, therapist, and administrative supervisor at a local outpatient center. In these positions, my primary focus was on children, adolescents, and their families.
My counseling professional affiliations include memberships in the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), the Long Beach-South Bay Chapter of CAMFT, and the Orange County Chapter of CAMFT. I was a contributing board member for the Long Beach-South Bay Chapter of CAMFT for several years.
As part of my collaborative divorce mediation practice, I am also a member of the South Bay Bar Association. I understand that many couples want their divorce to have a minimal impact on the parties involved, especially children. Therefore I assist couples in an effort to minimize the negative effects of divorce on all family members and guide the parties into the most amicable solution for their particular situation, including co-parenting issues.
I received a Bachelor of Arts degree, with Honors, from California State University Dominguez Hills. I also received a Master of Arts, with Honors, in Clinical Psychology, with an option in Marriage and Family Therapy, from California State University Dominguez Hills. I earned my Doctor of Psychology degree in Counseling Psychology from California Coast University.
